FREEsia Challenge!

Let everyone unlock their potential!

In Japan, the number of women researchers is very small compared to other countries. Women in young generation are less likely to become medical scientists because there is few role models. Also, the proposals to increase female researchers in Japan is usually based on women’s perspectives, so it is not easily accepted by everyone. Men are also suffering from ideal men images.
In a society where there are differences between men and women, ways of life and choices are limited. To solve this problem, we need to think about what we can do to advance female researchers’ careers and to achieve mutual understanding between men and women. A radical solution is needed.
We, team FREEsia, visit laboratories both in Japan and in other countries to have an interview with various medical researchers. By analyzing the interview in and out of Japan, we will elucidate the causes of the low number of female researchers in Japan. Our goal is to present a solution from institutional, cultural, and social aspects that will lead to women’s career advancement and mutual understanding between men and women, and finally to enable everyone to unlock their potential.

● FREEsia
“FREEsia” is from the flower, “freesia.” Freesia stands for FriendshipGratitude and Affection, and these are important things in realizing a society where both men and women can pursue what they want to do freely regardless of gender.
